"Why are Canadian women still fighting to become equal?"

Over the past few decades women have been becoming more accepted into different job roles all around the country and some parts of the world. These jobs that more woman are becoming more involved in would have been considered a man’s job in the early 1900s. Even though women practically have the same jobs as men there are still some differences in the work place, and McMaster has focused on one major one, difference in pay. For two years, McMaster University has been studying the salaries of male and female faculty members. The study showed that on average male faculty were making $3,515 more than women in 2012 and 2013. The University released this analysis in April of 2015 and declared that payment adjustments will be made of July 1st of 2015. Not only has the University focused on payment changes, but McMaster has been intentionally trying to hire the same amount of women as men and the faculty is close to being 50/50. McMaster is also rewriting the harassment policy for the University. By McMaster doing this study, it has pushed other Ontario Universities to do the study as well. Some universities that have done the study include Western University where they found no differences, and the University of Waterloo.

The McMaster payment change study contributes to making the women’s march to equality the twentieth century of Canadian identity because it shows how women are treated differently and need to be treated equally. This study investigates how men are paid $3,515 more than women are. Just because we are women, why be paid differently? It is not fair and needs to be changed as soon as possible because if men were paid less, this would be an outrage and the biggest problem of the century. This study also helps show how women are affected by the payment difference and how it is important that we change it immediately to help women of the world gain equal rights. Many people think that women are now equal and are the same as men, however, these people are wrong. Women’s march to equality is the most important theme of Canadian identity because everyone is the same and should not be paid differently just because we are seen as weaker, less superior humans.
